The 4th European Bamboo Expo in Dortmund was a memorable event. It was a gathering of pioneers, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and passionate individuals united by a shared belief: bamboo has the potential to become one of the defining materials of a conscious future.
For Bamoon, the event provided an opportunity to reconnect with long-standing bamboo advocates, establish new relationships, and witness an encouraging development: a growing number of young professionals from diverse sectors are discovering bamboo and recognizing its vast potential. From architecture and construction to IT, agriculture, design, sustainability consulting, and education, interest in bamboo is steadily expanding. What was once considered a niche topic is gradually gaining recognition across a broader range of industries and generations. At the same time, some sectors are still underrepresented within the European bamboo network. It will be exciting to see how these areas evolve in the coming years and what new perspectives they may bring to the industry.
As the Founder and Brand Ambassador of Bamoon, and as an official media partner of the European Bamboo Expo, I had the privilege of experiencing the event from a unique perspective. Beyond attending presentations and connecting with exhibitors, speakers, and visitors, I conducted a series of exclusive interviews with pioneers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and experts from across the bamboo sector.
These conversations provided valuable insights into current developments, opportunities, challenges, and the future potential of bamboo in Europe. To make these perspectives accessible to a wider audience, the interviews are being published through ECUEM – Bamoon’s podcast on Spotify. Whether you are already part of the bamboo community or simply curious about this remarkable material, I invite you to listen and hear directly from the people helping shape its future. One of the key organizations helping drive this development forward is the European Bamboo Foundation. The Foundation plays a vital role in connecting stakeholders, promoting knowledge exchange, supporting innovation, and strengthening the visibility of bamboo throughout Europe. As the European bamboo ecosystem continues to evolve, organizations such as the Foundation create the framework needed for meaningful collaboration and long-term growth. The Expo demonstrated once again that progress is accelerated when people openly share expertise, challenge conventional thinking, and work together across disciplines. What impressed me most was not only the knowledge and passion of long-time bamboo pioneers but also the increasing interest shown by younger generations and professionals from entirely different backgrounds. This diversity of perspectives is exactly what will help unlock bamboo’s potential in the years ahead.
The momentum continues with the upcoming bamboo congress in Rotterdam, which will provide another important platform for research, dialogue, innovation, and international cooperation. The European Bamboo Expo will also be represented there, creating further opportunities for researchers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, designers, and enthusiasts to exchange ideas and build lasting partnerships. You can check that event out here: https://worldbamboocongress.org.
Bamoon is looking forward to attending future editions, including next year’s European Bamboo Expo, and contributing actively to the conversation around innovation, sustainability, and lifestyle applications of bamboo.
Another exciting development is the emergence of AI-supported knowledge platforms dedicated to bamboo. As the sector continues to mature, transparent access to information becomes increasingly important. Reliable research, material insights, case studies, technical data, and best practices can help lower barriers to entry and support informed decision-making throughout the industry.
These digital platforms have the potential to connect stakeholders globally, accelerate innovation, and make bamboo-related expertise significantly easier to access. We are following these developments with great interest and believe they can contribute substantially to the growth, transparency, and accessibility of bamboo knowledge. For me personally, the Expo was also a moment of reflection.
After one year of building Bamoon, countless conversations with experts, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, developers, researchers, and industry professionals, as well as participating in events and exhibitions across the bamboo sector, many dots finally clicked and connected.
While I remain curious, open-minded, and flexible regarding future opportunities, my focus for the foreseeable future will be on products that support wellness, fitness, sports, recovery, and spa-related experiences.
This decision did not emerge overnight. It is the result of a year spent listening, learning, exploring the market, and understanding where Bamoon can create genuine value. Through discussions with industry experts, material specialists, manufacturers, designers, and fellow entrepreneurs, a clearer picture has gradually emerged. Rather than trying to serve every possible application of bamboo, Bamoon will focus on creating thoughtful lifestyle products that align with well-being, mindful living, and everyday rituals.
There is also an important message in this for anyone who feels they have not figured everything out at the start of their journey: act, do, change, discover, and implement. You do not need to be fully ready or have complete clarity before you begin.
As one of the few emerging bamboo lifestyle brands, Bamoon has intentionally remained simple, timeless, observant, and eager to learn. This first year has been less about selling products and more about understanding the material, the people behind the industry, and the many possible directions the journey could take.
Looking back, I feel deeply grateful for every conversation, every challenge, every lesson, and every person who has been part of this journey. The past year has helped shape not only Bamoon’s future direction but also my own understanding of what I want to contribute to this industry.
To everyone I met in Dortmund—thank you for the inspiring conversations, the valuable insights, the encouragement, and the openness with which you shared your experiences.
After one year of exploring the bamboo world, I leave this Expo with even greater curiosity than when I started. There is still so much to learn, discover, and create. I am excited to continue this journey together with the growing bamboo community, to contribute where I can, and to keep building bridges between sustainability, innovation, lifestyle, and education.
The future is not something we wait for. It is something we help shape.
Stay tuned and follow along.
With everlasting regards,
Maria
